O Captain, My Captain - To Dada!

O Captain, My Captain,
a fairy tale is done.
The team has weathered every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, I look back thanking!

O heart, heart, heart
For the winning habit you brought,
At home and abroad.
And today, as you, my Captain retire,
I stand, salute and admire!

@Anon: Yup!

@ Hirok: Mr. Whitman had done 99% of the work and Dada gave the inspiration to strive for the other 1%. Much like he did for his career for his players! :-)

"the prize we sought is won"... What prize you are talking abt...the WC... Did we ever got or was it that we never sought?
We bengalis are romantics and usually get carried away with dada...
Look at the stats man... his ODI captaincy record is worse than Dhoni, Dravid and even Azhar (by % win among those who captained more than 50 ODIs) and test record of 21 wins includes 9 against Ban & Zim... what a pity for the greatest captain of India...

Firstly, am not a Bong. Secondly, I've said he was the best captain we've ever had. You know any other Indian captain who led a team against Oz at their peak and defeated them? Or do you know any other Indian captain who even got us till a WC final?

And you're not willing to discount Azhar's victories against minnows but would discount Ganguly's victories against minnows?

What about Kapil Dev @ WC83 against the mighty WI??? Rings any bell... Perhaps you are not born then kiddo....

You're right I wasn't. If you were, do you have a list of tests we drew or lost in that era? Or do your run out of pages in your notebook while writing them down?

Kapil was a solid captain no doubt. However, we are talking about the best Indian captain till date. Sourav got us into a winning habit at home and abroad.
